This past weekend one of my favorite people got married.
Cayla has country vibes and wore cowboy boots under her wedding gown. She married a carpenter who sports overalls on the regular. So our friendship hangs out somewhere in that folky middle ground where oldschool Alabama and John Denver meet Mumford and Sons and Needtobreathe.
Naturally, during their engagement photos we chilled with some super-photogenic farm animals.
Before I moved to Birmingham and began working at Brook Hills, I used to shoot on-location portrait sessions regularly. A little bit before golden hour, clients and I would take off on an adventure somewhere outside of town with my camera, some deep woods bug spray, some towels for mud, and a makeup kit and comb in my bag. Clients would be looking on-point with me a sweaty mess and together we’d create such genuinely fun images. Now I shoot on-location portrait sessions primarily for friends. That afternoon with Cayla and Matthew felt like a throwback to the old Sweet Light days and it was such a blast.
Cayla and Matthew are hilarious together. They have this witty banter that keeps you doubled over the entire time you’re together.
Right now they’re on their honeymoon in Alaska — which sounds like such an awesome place to unwind after the ridiculous mad dash of engagement season.
I filmed their wedding on Saturday so in the next few weeks that’ll pop up here.
Congrats Cayla and Matthew. Can’t wait for that super-cheesy-and-under-five-bucks Alaskan souvenir you promised. Those never disappoint.
